Philosophy: Interscholastic Athletics are an integral part of the total school curriculum. They are a vitally important educational tool in developing mature and healthy young adults. As an aspect of physical education, interscholastic athletics offer opportunities for individuals to participate according to their interests and degree of skill.

Eligibility:

  • Attendance: To participate in an inter- scholastic contest or in a practice session on a school days, a student shall have officially attended school on that day.
  • Scholarship: No student who has failed more than one (1) subject will be eligible to participate in the inter-scholastic athletic program. An incomplete is to be interpreted as a failure.
  • Good Standing: Any athlete whose name appears on the Suspension List and/or the Detention List, will be unable to participate in activities until his/her obligation(s) have been met or cleared.
  • Fall: Year end grades of the previous year.
  • Winter: First quarter grades of the current school year will be used to determine eligibility for the season. The first semester grade will be used to retain eligibility as defined in the Scholarship section above.
  • Spring: First semester grades of the current school year will be used to determine athletic eligibility for this season. Third (3rd)quarter grades will be used to retain eligibility as defined in in the Scholarship section above. Students who are 19 years old or older as of August 31st are ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletics.

Sports Season: The sports seasons shall be defined as follows:

  • “Fall” means August 15th until the final date of local conference, district, regional, or state tournaments.
  • Students should pay attention to daily announcements made in homeroom for notices of organizational meetings and tryouts at the beginning of each athletic season. Athletic eligibility rules require that a student have no more than one failure on the last report card to be eli-gibe to tryout for any team. A current medical examination must be on file.
